Lilt

Lilt was a brand of soft drink manufactured by The Coca-Cola Company and sold only in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Gibraltar.

Origin

The term “lilt” became a regular part of Velastín’s vocabulary during his participation in a 2009 student production of Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi, with the word being said frequently in a nasal, intentionally comedic voice by fellow actors Shervin Rassapour and Mohammed Malik.

Usage

While “lilt” is the most commonly-spoken word in this voice, other words and phrases to be uttered in this voice include:
Pelt (specifically derived from the phrase “pelt on she,” itself a derivation of the phrase “piss on me.” In this instance, a pause is to be taken by the speaker between “on” and the final word of the phrase.)
Felt
Somebody, anybody (similarly to “pelt on she,” this phrase also requires the speaker to take a pause in the middle.)
Spinning
Grinning

Further Information

Lilt was discontinued by The Coca-Cola Company in 2023. It is unknown if Velastín was a drinker of Lilt during the time when the soda was in circulation.
